Safeguarding requirements for volunteers

To help ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone in our parish community, all volunteers across the Archdiocese of Melbourne are required to comply with the safeguarding requirements below.

1. Working with children check (WWCC)

A valid WWCC is required before commencing volunteering in any ministry.

How to obtain a WWCC

- Apply online through Service Victoria

- If you don’t have an account with Service Victoria you will need to create one

- Complete the application form. You may be able to verify your identity online, otherwise, you will need to attend an Australia Post outlet.

- Once your application has been approved, you will receive your WWCC card.

When applying for WWCC please keep in mind

- To the question “which kind of check do you need?” Select Volunteer.
- Enter organisation details as:

- Under Occupational Work Code please select 64 Religious Organisations

2. Safeguarding Training

All volunteers are required to complete the Archdiocese of Melbourne Safeguarding Training.

The training can be accessed here

- Apply online through here

When applying for WWCC please keep in mind

- A valid WWCC is required before you can access the online training.

- The training is mandatory for all volunteers.

- The training must be renewed every three (3) years.

3. Code of Conduct

All volunteers are required to acknowledge the Parish Code of Conduct. to complete the Archdiocese of Melbourne Safeguarding Training.

- The Code of Conduct can be acknowledged during the Safeguarding Training process.

- This requirement applies to all volunteers.

- The acknowledgement must be renewed every three (3) years, together with the safeguarding training.

4. Police Check

A National Police Check is only required for certain volunteer roles.

Please do not obtain your own Police Check.

- If your ministry requires a Police Check, the Parish Office will arrange the entire process on your behalf.

- Please contact the Parish Safeguarding Officer, who will advise whether a Police Check is required for your role and will organise all necessary paperwork.
